COMMIT

COMMIT, a committee of the Rotary Club of Stratford, Ontario, was formed after volunteers from Southwestern Ontario visited Nicaragua and observed the challenges faced by local communities. Guided by Rotary’s principle of sustainability, COMMIT collaborates with local governments and community leaders to create lasting, positive impacts.

Key Objectives and Activities:

Microeconomic Development: Promotes self-sufficiency through training, workshops, and active community involvement, fostering continuous learning and empowerment.
Sustainable Partnerships: Maintains enduring relationships with Nicaraguan communities by returning to the same regions biannually, fostering trust and mutual respect.
Volunteer Collaboration: Brings volunteers twice a year to work on diverse projects that support growth, well-being, and community development.

Through its initiatives, COMMIT empowers individuals, transforms lives, and builds stronger communities, remaining dedicated to long-term support and meaningful change in Nicaragua

What We Do

Empowering Change Together

Education

Providing access to quality education empowers individuals in underprivileged communities. COMMIT supports this by teaching sewing skills, supplying local schools with textbooks and essentials, offering first aid and CPR training, and running an agricultural co-op that improves nutrition while generating income.

Healthcare

Improving healthcare infrastructure ensures healthier lives and a stronger community. COMMIT supports this mission by providing essential supplies to a local hospital, building multiple medical clinics and preparing to construct another in the coming weeks, supplying villages with clean drinking water through drilled wells, and constructing outhouses to improve sanitation.

Environmental Sustainability

Environmental sustainability is essential to protecting our planet for future generations. COMMIT promotes sustainable practices by building eco-friendly stoves that reduce environmental impact and generate carbon credits through their use. These stoves also provide cleaner air for users, improving health and daily living conditions. To date, COMMIT has built over 300 stoves, creating lasting benefits for both communities and the environment.
